Hutchinson, KS - The opening game against Hutchinson is always one of the most physical and competitive games of the year. The game ended up being a close one with a final score of 1-0 in favor of Buhler.

These boys have played soccer together for years and will do whatever it takes to win against each other.

“I always look forward to the game against Hutchinson because both teams know each other and give it their all,” said Amos Harder, center-midfielder for Buhler.

Last season Buhler Men's Soccer went 17-2. They lost their second game of the season and then went on a 16-game winning streak before losing to McPherson in the 4A State Quarterfinals.

Buhler Mens Soccer has recently hired a new Head Coach Josh Taffola.

“To prepare myself I have done a lot of research and studying of the game, I really focus on our formations and style of play to get the team prepared while also focusing on the simple things too,” said Taffola.

The team trained during the summer to get ready for the season.

“We conditioned 3 times a week early in the morning. Mainly running to ensure that we were ready for our games,” said Joseph Marks, junior defensive player.

“I have high expectations for this team, I believe this is a state championship caliber team and that is the goal this season. We have a great group of boys that I believe can achieve that goal,” said Taffola.

“I'm looking forward to playing with the team this year, our varsity squad is nearly entirely seniors. It's been fun to play with them this far, and I feel we have an especially strong team this year,” said Caleb Penrose, senior defensive player.

“This season I'm looking forward to being back with the team after going 17-2 last year. I and all the guys have higher hopes this year to make a deeper run,” said Parker Freeman, senior defensive player.

Fans can catch the Crusader Men's Soccer team at home tonight Thursday, Sept. 14 at Crusader Stadium against Salina Central. JV plays a shortened game at 5:00 and the varsity game will start around 6:10.
