Hutchinson, KS- Buhler High School Women's Volleyball played in a tournament at Salthawk Activity Center on Saturday, August 26th. They faced Hutchinson, Eisenhower, Andover Central, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, and Dodge City. The Crusaders went 1 and 4 on the day.

Although their record may not show it, Buhler Women’s Volleyball fought hard to keep the scores close in each game with many games ending by fewer than 5 points. They got the win over Dodge City in 2 sets (25-21, 25-11) and came up just short to Kapaun (20-25, 22-25) and Hutch (23-25, 20-25).

When asked about the tournament head coach Deedra Emel said, “We went 1-4 on Saturday. We saw a lot of good things and I feel this tournament was a great starting point for us. For the most part, we played every team close and now we focus on more consistency.”

The Crusader Volleyball team has seen a lot of positive results over the summer and is looking forward to improving throughout this season.

“The tournament was a good starting point for our season, it could have been better but we have a lot of improvements to make. I served 4 aces in a row on match point versus Kapuan. I feel really good about the rest of the season and I am excited to keep improving. Saturday we played a lot better then where we ended last year,” said junior setter, Breann Ruda.

The Crusaders are looking forward to a tough schedule to show the improvements they have made from their last season. Their next home tri will be against Andale and Circle on Tuesday, September 19th; this is also senior night.

Stats from the Hutchinson Varsity tournament include:

Breann Ruda led with aces on the day with 9

Braelyn East led in serve-receive passing with a passer rating of 2.02

Natalya Krafels served 100%, not missing 1 of her 23 serves on the day

Emerson Waldren led in kills with 28 and digs with 30

The Crusaders are now 4-6-1.
